The BioMar factory in Brande obtained at the beginning of February the recognized ISO 22000 certificate, which proves that processes and procedures related to food safety at the factory are under control.
“Food safety is related to the presence of food-borne hazards in food at the point of consumption.” This is the way food safety is defined in ISO 22000, which is the shared international food safety standard for the entire food chain across industries and borders.
Safety hazards can occur at any point in the food chain, and adequate control throughout the entire food chain is therefore paramount. “Food safety is secured through a combined effort by all parties in the food chain,” says Managing Director, Lars Rahbæk, who continues: “With the ISO 22000 certification, BioMar has committed itself to the continued evaluation of these potential safety hazards throughout our own process, not least where it concerns the production process.”
In food safety, complete traceability is a very important element, because it can help to ensure the necessary quick reaction as well as the correction of possible mistakes.
“We have complete traceability at the plant in Brande. That means that within a few hours, we can trace a product from the customer all the way back to the supplier of the raw materials. That is naturally also true the other way around” states Lars Rahbæk. “Our customers can feel secure in the knowledge that we can recall feed within a few hours if a critical situation should arise.”
One can never protect oneself completely from the occurrence of critical situations, but with the ISO 22000 certification, BioMar has ensured the customers that a possible subsequent effect can be reduced to an absolute minimum.
“With ISO 22000, we have a well-defined, well-documented, and not least of all, a fully integrated system that will ensure in all ways the highest possible level of food safety,” says Lars Rahbæk.
The ISO 22000 certification is compatible with BioMar’s existing ISO 9001 certification concerning quality assurance.
