The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration recommends farmed fish
Fish lovers, who eat more than 300 gram of fish per week, should choose low fat or farmed fish. This is the recommendation from the experts in the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, who have recently adjusted their official recommendation on fish consumption.
The reason that consumers with an appetite for salmon lasagne, fish meat balls, or mackerel in tomato sauce should choose low fat or farmed fish, is that these don’t contain as much mercury or dioxin as wild fat fish from for example the Baltic Sea
Apart from being a rich source of proteins, fish also provides vitamin D, iodine, selenium and healthy fatty acids – elements which are only to a lesser extent found in other food. By eating 200-300 gram of fish per week you will get the full benefit from these beneficial nutrients in the fish – without too much of the chemical pollution.
However, the Danish authorities conclude that it is perfectly safe to eat more than 300 gram of fish per week if one choose low fat fish or farmed trout and salmon.
