Sturgeon - a long term investment

The extremely long life cycle of the sturgeon makes it a long term investment, where a well adapted and stable high feed quality year after year becomes a key factor in achieving the desired return on the investment. BioMar's long experience with sturgeon feed production and close collaboration with sturgeon farmers has given us an important lead in sturgeon feed.

One of the major challenges in finding the optimal nutritional solution for sturgeons is the growth cycle stretching over years and another one is that it is the caviar, not the meat which is the principal final product. The feed must be adapted to these facts. As for all other BioMar feed products our offer for sturgeons is based on elaborate research programmes as well as tests carried out in partnership with our customers with comparisons made between caviar from wild sturgeon and farmed sturgeon. Our sturgeon range in this way summarises more than 15 years of experience with developing nutritional solutions for sturgeon.

EFICO Sigma 815 / EFICO Genio 815

BioMar has for many years been a leading producer of sturgeon feed aimed at the production of caviar.

Sturgeon farming is a very long process which makes the development of feed for that purpose a highly elaborate process.

Through a close collaboration with fish farmers, BioMar has throughout the years developed a product which provides the best and most secure basis for a good result.

EFICO Sigma 815 is a feed with a medium high energy level. It is based on the best raw materials and is rich in fish meal and fish oil. The feed meets the sturgeon’s specific nutritional needs, including the need for essential fatty acids. The protein / fat ratio enables good growth, taking into consideration the optimal development of caviar.

EFICO Genio 815 is the feed type we recommend to use towards the end of the production, in continuation of EFICO Sigma 815. A larger digestible protein/digestible fat ratio in EFICO Genio 815 ensures high quality caviar.
