BioMar inaugurates new high tech feed production line in Norway

The total production capacity has more than doubled, and is now up to 260,000 tons.

The investment in the new production line, M225, and a significant upgrade of the current production line No. 1 at the Myre factory in Norway is the largest BioMar has ever done. BioMar has adopted the very latest and advanced extrusion technology, and invested in an automated line with a robot for packaging in bags, and BioMar will soon be the first to introduce environmentally friendly delivery boats with gas (LNG) propulsed engines. These have the advantage of being both cheaper in operation and emitting less CO2 and NOx.

The investment involved a cost around NKR 380 million (Around € 48,7 million).

The Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Lisbeth Berg-Hansen, marked the 25th Anniversary of BioMar Norway by conducting the official opening of the new production line M225 at Myre on 21st June, where also CEO of the BioMar Group, Torben Svejgaard and the Vice President of BioMar’s  North Sea region, Jan Sverre Røsstad, participated.

This fall the factory will both produce pellets in 500-kilo batches – i.e. bags, such as today - and in bulk, where the finished pellets are transported on a closed conveyor belt directly into the delivery boats.

The factory at Myre produces feed for salmon, trout and cod. It is certified according to ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), and ISO 22000 (food safety). In addition, BioMar Norway recently obtained the DNV ProSustain certification on sustainability as the first company within the aquaculture business.
