Clean Technology

The production of fish feed is a complex process involving several steps. Raw materials are first mixed and grinded, then heated in the extrusion process and then cooled down. Although this process does not involve any environmentally harmful substances it does require use of energy, and some raw materials like fish meal and fish oil are smelly substances.

Energy consumption is one of several environment related key performance indicators, that is monitored and regularly compared between BioMar factories in order to share and implement best practice across the company. BioMar engineers and technicians strive to reduce energy consumption both to reduce costs and in order to contribute to the reduction of global CO² emissions.

Factory interior

Eliminating smell from the production is a major concern where BioMar factories are located close to urban areas. Using ingredients like fish meal and fish oil can not be done without creating odors, which are not highly appreciated by most humans. By treating emissions from the production and working in closed factory environments the odors in the external environment is reduced to acceptable levels.
