Tilapia (Oreochromis spp.)
Tilapia is a tropical species that plays a major role in aquaculture, as world production of Tilapia exceeds that of salmon. Tilapia are traditionally raised in earth ponds in tropical countries and fed with by-products from food-producing agriculture, bringing an essential protein complement to the nutrition of local populations.
Some years ago another, more intensive type of fish farming of Tilapia started to develop, aiming at the production of Tilapia filets. For this activity, BioMar has developed two ranges of grower feed, EFICO Alpha 830F and EFICO Alpha 845F. BioMar also offers feed types INICIO Plus and INICIO 838 for Tilapia fingerlings.

EFICO Alpha 845F
The recipe of EFICO Alpha 845F uses mainly vegetable proteins but also fish meal. As for lipids, Tilapia must be fed with a majority of ω6 fatty acids. The formula however appeals also to ω 3 that is being supplied to the feed by means of fish oil in order to obtain the nutritional qualities that are generally recognized for fish. The digestible proteins / digestible energy ratio of EFICO Alpha 845F is adapted to the fish size, and thus it decreases according to the pellet sizes.
EFICO Alpha 830F
EFICO Alpha 830F is an economic floating feed type, covering the nutritional needs of Tilapia. EFOCO Alpha 830F is available in 3 mm and 4.5 mm pellets.
