2009 - a good year for BioMar

The 2009 result for the BioMar Group was published on March 11th as part of the announcement of the result of Danish industrial group Schouw &Co, owners of BioMar.

The result for BioMar was a gross profit of 25½ million EUR, which under the given circumstances is considered as very satisfactory. The result must be seen on the background of a reduction in the volume of fish feed sold, mainly due to the reduction in the salmon production in Chile. The reduced volume in Chile was, however, to a large extent offset by a strong increase in Norway.

Torben Svejgard, CEO of the BioMar Group, emphasises, that it is in particular efficiency gains arising from rationalisation and an improved capacity utilisation after the acquisition of Provimi Aqua in 2008 and the closure of the factories in Horsens, Denmark, and Rancagua, Chile, which have contributed to the positive result. In general, it has been possible to achieve an acceptable margin level and at the same time there has been a considerable improvement in the working capital leading to a very satisfying cash flow.
