Experimental Centre, Castro, Chile

BioMar operates in Chile a modern Experimental Centre located on the island of Chiloé close to the BioMar factory in Castro and in the heart of the Chilean fish farming region.

The Castro Experimental Centre is primarily dedicated to evaluations of raw materials, evaluations of additives, test of feeding strategies, and tests with different feed types both in terms of feed performance and physical quality of the feed.

The Experimental Centre at Castro includes a hatchery with a recirculation system, where 95 % of the water is recirculated, comprising 22 tanks equipped with an automatic feeding system and automatic oxygenation control. The Experimental Centre also includes a large outdoor facility with two separate sets of seven cubic meters tanks - one set consisting of 24 tanks with a recirculation system, and another set of ten tanks with flow through system. In addition to this, the Castro Experimental Centre conducts tests of digestibility in a facility with sedimentation columns.
