Covering your trout’s needs
Production of rainbow trout accounts for a small, though not insignificant, share of salmonid production. Over the last 50 years a major focus on feeds, yield and cost-benefits has made BioMar the preferred choice for trout farmers on several continents. In Norway our trout concept is called Rainbow Fjord, and we now offer our UK customers this product range. We continually update this concept to incorporate the most recent research findings on ingredients, nutrition and the interface between nutrition and processes. Trout require a specially adapted diet to produce good yields and strong growth with high feed conversion, and to achieve the desired quality. The feed must have the right nutritional quality of the pellet and the desired physical qualities to optimise the yield. And this is exactly what the trout gets from the Rainbow Fjord concept!
THE BEST POSSIBLE END RESULT FOR THE PRODUCTION PROCESS STARTS IN THE HATCHERY!
Solid investment in the freshwater phase leads to a large and healthy smolt – the best foundation for good health, survival and growth after transfer.
Thanks to its extensive experience with land-based aquaculture, BioMar has developed fry feed and grower feed specially designed to meet the challenges that occur at every stage of a fishes life and across the spectrum in production of smolt. In developing a feed for smolts, BioMar aims for the best physical quality, for raw materials of prime quality and targeted use of biofunctional components. Functional components such as Bactocell and krill affect the intestinal health and appetite of fish and ensure good nourishment, robust health and rapid growth.
BioMar’s extrusion technology produces a water-stable and porous mini-pellet with unique technical quality and an ideal sinking rate. This lays the foundations for a good tank environment, which in turn leads to improved fish welfare and problem-free production.
A SUCCESSFUL TRANSFER PROVIDES THE FOUNDATION FOR OPTIMAL HEALTH AND YIELDS THROUGHOUT THE SEA PHASE
Salmon undergo significant changes when they transition from fresh water to the sea. In addition to being exposed to a considerably higher infection risk in the sea, the fish’s immune defence and barriers are weakened as a result of the smoltification process. Consequently, the fish are exposed to a risk of disease and increased mortality during this phase.
Intro and Intro Q are recommended for use before and after release into the sea respectively. The carefully selected functional components of the Intro package strengthen immune defence and barriers. This ensures optimal yields in the hatchery, and a more robust and resistant smolt after release.
Rainbow Fjord represents the very best product for trout based on our knowledge of the interface between nutrition, raw materials, processes and yield (growth, FCR, health and quality).
The rainbow trout faces many of the same challenges as the salmon in today’s modern fish farms. That’s why we also supply all our health feed (SmartFeed) for trout
- Trout have special dietary needs, which is why our health feed comes in dedicated trout variants with Rainbow Fjord as the basic constituent.
- The feeds have the same name and functional ingredients as our health feeds for salmon; however, the “family name” Fjord differentiates them from our salmon variants
ORBIT – SPECIALLY ADAPTED FEED FOR RAS SYSTEMS
ORBIT focuses on growth, water quality and the load on the biofilter. ORBIT provides perfectly balanced nutrition for the fish, and is manufactured to allow maximum utilisation of nutrients.
