BioMar locations

BioMar is one of the leading suppliers of high performance fish feed to the aquaculture industry worldwide. In addition to the production facilities, BioMar also has numerous research and development facilities of its own. Operationally BioMar is structured around three divisions: Salmon, EMEA and Emerging Markets, covering diverse geographical locations with production facilities across the globe. Salmon Division

Salmon division integrates the major salmon farming markets: Chile, Norway and the United Kingdom.

Chile

In Chile BioMar operates three factories. Two factories are located in Pargua, close to Puerto Montt, supplying high performance feed for, among others, trout, coho and atlantic salmon. BioMar’s factory in Castro on the island of Chiloé primarily produces fry feed and specialised products with high value added for Atlantic salmon, coho and trout.

Norway

BioMar has two factories in Norway: in Karmøy and Myre. The Karmøy factory supplies a number of different product ranges to salmon and trout and to other species in fish farming such as cleaner fish. The factory in Myre in the Vesterålen Islands opened in 1987 and was the first BioMar factory in Norway.

United Kingdom

BioMar’s factory in Grangemouth, central Scotland, primarily serves salmon farmers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Additionally, it is also renowned for a number of special high quality products with high value added to both customers and consumers such as certified feed for organic salmon farming.

EMEA Division

EMEA Division embraces the diverse portfolio of customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa. BioMar operates five modern feed factories strategically located in Denmark, Spain, France, Greece, and in Turkey as a part of the joint-venture company BioMar-Sagun.

Denmark

The factory in Brande, Denmark, was established in 1962 and laid the foundation of what has become the BioMar Group. The Danish factory supplies the countries around the Baltic Sea, in East Europe and in the Northern part of Central Europe as well as trout farmers in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Italy. The principal product groups are feed for trout, sturgeon eel, pike perch and arctic char, however the factory supplies feed for more than 30 species.

Spain

The factory in Spain is located in Duenãs near Valladolid in the central part of Spain. It primarily serves the Iberian Peninsula and produces feed for among other species trout, sea bass, sea bream, meagre and turbot.

France

In France BioMar operates a factory in Nersac in the north of Bordeaux which primarily serves farmers in France, Italy, Croatia. Additionally, the sales team based in Nersac manages exports to several overseas markets in Asia and Africa. The product types produced include feed for among other species trout, sea bass, sea bream, sturgeon, turbot, sole, catfish, tilapia and other tropical fish species.

Greece

Located in the heart of Greece in the port town of Volos between Athens and Thessaloniki, the Greek factory serves the rapidly expanding aquaculture sector in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean, the Balkans and the Middle East. The production primarily consists of feed for sea bass, sea bream, and other Mediterranean species. The Volos factory also produces feed for fresh water species like trout and sturgeon.

Turkey

BioMar operates in Turkey through the joint venture company BioMar-Sagun in a 50-50 partnership with one of Turkey’s leading aquaculture companies Sagun Group. Since summer 2016, BioMar-Sagun delivers BioMar’s high performance fish feed and technical support to fish farmers from its state-of-the-art factory in Söke and soon will start supplying BioMar’s world class fish feed to neighbouring countries.

Emerging Markets Division

The Emerging Markets Division seeks to focus on building up new markets, servicing new species. For the timing being, Emerging Markets Division focuses on the Americas, China and other Asian markets.

Costa Rica

The factory in Costa Rica, located in Cañas in the Guanacaste province,  was opened in 2012 and is the most modern aqua feed factory in Central America, serving customers in Costa Rica and surrounding countries with premium quality feeds for tilapia, shrimp, cobia, red snapper and other warm water species as well as trout.

Ecuador

BioMar started operations in Ecuador in 2017 after the acquisition of Alimentsa, a high-end shrimp feed producer with a leading position in Ecuador.

Since its creation in 1987, the company has focused on quality and a high level of involvement and support to customers. The factory is located in Durán, near Guayaquil and supplies shrimp feeds to Ecuador and Central America.

China

BioMar operates in China in joint venture with Tongwei, one of the largest fish feed companies in the world with a strong position in China. One of the factories is located in the south of China, in Zhuhai region, producing feed for snakehead, Japanese seabass and shrimp.
A new factory is scheduled for opening in 2019 with a production capacity of 100.000 tons. The location for the factory has been selected carefully on the East Coast of China in Wuxi area, nearby Shanghai. The factory will focus on feed to the growing Chinese production of high value fish species such as sea bass, sea bream, cobia, turbot, bass, grouper, trout, sturgeon, tilapia, eel, and shrimp.
