What is in Fish Feed? Fish feed contains carefully selected ingredients to provide fish with the ideal balance of nutrients they consume in the wild.
How is Fish Feed Made? Our Feed is made through a process called extrusion. Extrusion is a way of cooking both human and animal foods and provides many advantages for fish feed production.
Is Farmed Salmon Dyed? Salmon, whether wild or farmed, receive their signature flesh colour from their food. This is a consequence of their need to store an antioxidant called Astaxanthin.
How much marine ingredients are used in your feed? Fish meal (a dried powder made from cooked fish), makes up between 5-10% of our feed today. 30 years ago, it accounted for approximately 50%.
Where does BioMar source ingredients from? BioMar only source from independently certified producers, or in the process of becoming certified organisations.
What preservatives are used in your feed? BioMar Australia do not add Ethoxyquin as a feed additive. By cooperating with our suppliers, we have developed alternative solutions to stabilise our feed materials.
Are poultry products used in your feed? Land animal products, including poultry, only contribute a small portion of what goes into our feed. These products provide a high-quality sustainable source of proteins and fat, reducing the amount of marine derived ingredients required.
Is farmed salmon a good source of Omega 3? Farmed salmon is one of the best sources for humans to get their recommended intake of marine Omega 3 fatty acids. Farmed salmon is considered a super food by many experts due to having a high content of the right Omega 3 fatty acids.
