BioMar receives an award for foreign investment in Ecuador
Ivan Ontaneda Berrú from the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries in Ecuador has acknowledged BioMar for its foreign investment in Ecuador. The award is in recognition for being part of the new economic model of the country and for the trust that BioMar has placed in Ecuador for the investment of new projects including expansion of production and R&D capabilities.
Today we can speak with pride, since we are promoters of dialogue which has achieved a solid alliance and collaborative work between the government and private companies, said Minister Ivan Ontaneda Berrú.
As part of the investment strategy in Ecuador, BioMar is investing in a new extrusion line to enable greater flexibility, while significantly expanding feed capacity and value-added product solutions. The new line is the second expansion of capacity and will increase volume capacity by 35%. Commissioning is expected by mid-2020, just one year after the last capacity expansion at the BioMar Ecuador production facility.
The investment in research and development with the creation of ATC Ecuador (Aquaculture Technology Center) is already delivering results with various trials well underway. It is the most advanced center in the country for studies of shrimp nutrition. It has multiple water recirculation systems that ensure total control of the parameters during the tests. The ATC allows the evaluation of more than 150 diets per year, simulating the complete life cycle of shrimp.
The award is a symbol of the Ecuadorian government’s recognition and support to the BioMar strategy of continued growth in the Ecuadorian shrimp market.
