Waste
We want to at least reduce by half the amount of waste connected to our products by 2017.
The total amounts of waste in Norway have increased by almost 40 per cent since 1995, and generated a total of 9.9 million tonnes in 2011. Concurrent with the increase in the amounts of waste, the proportion of waste that is recycled is also increasing. In 2011, 46 per cent of ordinary waste material was recycled, and a figure of 34 per cent in terms of energy reuse. This gives a total recycled percentage of 87 per cent. (SSB)
Although waste is increasing, GDP is growing even more. This means that more value is being created per tonne of waste that arises now than was the case in 2007. This is in line with the aim in the Government White Paper no. 26, which states that the growth in waste shall be less than the economic growth.
Industry continues to be the major source of waste with 2.7 million tonnes in 2011, followed by households and the building and construction industry.
