Effektiv håndtering af gasser er afgørende i moderne akvakultur for at sikre fiskevelfærd og optimere produktionen. I takt med at fiskeopdrættere tager nye teknologier i brug, spiller afgasning en stadig vigtigere rolle i opretholdelsen af sunde vandforhold.
Mange gasser kan opløses i vand, og opløseligheden øges ved lavere temperaturer. Mens ilt er livsnødvendigt for fisk, kan andre gasser såsom CO₂, N₂ og H₂S have en negativ indvirkning på både sundhed og ydeevne.
Disse gasser stammer typisk fra organisk affald (foderrester, planter) samt fra fiskene selv. I nogle tilfælde kan indløbsvandet også indeholde høje koncentrationer af uønskede gasser, hvilket gør afgasning nødvendig både ved indløb og udløb for at overholde miljøkrav.
Afgasning ved indløb
En udbredt metode er at løfte vandet og fordele det over perforerede plader. Herved brydes vandoverfladen, så skadelige gasser kan slippe ud, samtidig med at ilt kan trænge ind i vandet.
Airlift-systemer
Luft tilføres gennem perforerede rør i en dybde på omkring 70–80 cm. De stigende luftbobler skaber vandbevægelse og fremmer afgasning. Ved dybere installationer kræves kraftigere rootsblæsere.
Kolonnebelufter
Vandet ledes gennem et medie som f.eks. bioblocks eller perforerede plader, hvilket øger overfladearealet og forbedrer gasudvekslingen. Ventilatorer kan tilføjes for at øge luftstrømmen og effektiviteten.
Tromlebelufter
Roterende tromler, der minder om tromlen i en vaskemaskine, øger vandets bevægelse og overfladeeksponering og understøtter dermed afgasning.
Overfladebeluftere
Skovlhjuls- eller propelbeluftere er fortsat almindelige i dambrug. Selvom de er nyttige, er de mindre energieffektive til afgasning sammenlignet med mere moderne alternativer.
